Soho Good! Sunday Brunch at Cecconi’s

by Cyn. Zarco

By 12:30 we had to fight for a table for three. Word is out! Cecconi’s Sunday Feast at Soho Beach House is the best deal in town. For $35 (kids $18), this is the only beggar’s banquet — a gourmet all-you-can-eat, can-you-believe-it feast every Sunday from 11 to 3.

We started with a Margherita pizza and slices of filet mignon, chased by a family of finger-long jumbo shrimp, a deviled egg and grilled asparagus. Paolo, still in Euro mode after a week in Provence, came back with a continental plate and raved over the creamy duck rillette. Greg went straight for the seafood buffet, the perfect accompaniment to his Mimosa. On my second go-round, the bevy of fresh oysters on ice looked tempting but I thought it best to wait long after my cappucino.

Here’s what you get at the five-station menu regaled by Exec. Chef Sergio Sigala and Pastry Chef Oscar Bonelli: Egg Station — fluffy omelets or sunny side up; Sweets Station — waffles, ricotta pancakes, pastries, pies, fresh-baked croissants, homemade torta; Raw Bar — prawns, oysters, salmon tartare, shrimp and fish salad; Carving Station — roast beef and pork, quinoa salad, meatballs, and mac ‘n’ cheese; plus a traditional array of Cold Cuts, and much much more.
Our fellow brunchers were civil as a polo crowd but for the annoying toddler screaming at the table behind us. Quick! Stop that roving bar cart! Another Bloody Mary, please. Many a high-rolling scenester was spotted ferrying back and forth to the buffet double-fisted, a plate in each hand, a big smile on his face. Hey, everybody loves a bargain, specially when prix fixe comes with a complimentary Mimosa, Bellini, or glass of OJ. Valet parking — half price! South Beach never had it this good.

Make reservations now for Mother’s Day!
