Miami’s Pink Tourist Attraction – BIG Balls!

Next time you’re visiting us at Babalu Miami and parking at 11 11 Lincoln Road, be sure to catch a glimpse of this architectural behemoth’s newest addition: the biggest pink balls in town.

It’s been confirmed that these Rollie-pollies are well-affixed and won’t be rolling down the garage ramp anytime soon.

We love ’em!

Russian Icon

We recently spotted this Russian relic dating to the 70’s in Tallin, Estonia. Once a symbol of city life and luxury, the Lada Classic was extremely popular across the Soviet Bloc.

Status Quo: One can’t help but stop and stare at this Soviet former beauty

Designer Coke

Spotted in downtown Helsinki the Jean Paul Gaultier Citroen designed for Coca Cola.

Who said that horizontal stripes make you look fat?

No, we’re not in the used-car business, but we couldn’t resist inviting this cherry ’87 Chevy pick-up to our great Garage Sale on the 7th floor of 1111 Lincoln June 19-21. After all, what’s a garage sale without a tailgate party?

Check it out. Baby got back. Make like Steve McQueen. Keep on truckin’.

T-bird Love

My dream car! The first-generation 1956 Ford Thunderbird— classic chassis, V-8 engine, red leather interior, Streamline deco portholes in a pop-off convertible hardtop. Would look great in my driveway, if I had one.

Inspiration: France, of course!

Story goes Ford honchos Lewis D. Crusoe and George Walker met in Paris in October 1951. Walking in the Grand Palais, Crusoe pointed to a sports car and asked Walker, ‘Why can’t we have something like that?’

Four years later, the T-bird luxe two-seater was born. In 1956 they flaunted that spare. Baby got back!

Retro Cop Rides

When walking by the police station on 11th & Washington, longtime SoBe-ite Helen Clarke Berndt snagged this photo of a 1955 Dodge black police car from Miami Beach’s checkered past. Cherry! That’s what Paolo thought when he saw this pink (Fight Breast Cancer) number. If these cars could talk! Thanks for sharing, Helen!

“Magic City” in a Chevy, Baby

What would the 1950s be without a streamlined Chevy and a fin-tailed Caddy? And, curvy redheads in red heels? At this year’s Miami Intl. Film Festival, Elena Satine and Steven Strait motored retro style to the Colony Theatre on Lincoln Road for the world premiere of the new made-in-Miami crime series, Magic City.”  Created by writer-producer Mitch (“Passion Play”) Glazer, a Beach High grad, “Magic” is “Mad Men” meets “Married to the Mob” only with muy sex, skin and gefilte fish.
Wife Kelly (“Charlie’s Angels”) Lynch peppers the ensemble cast. Jeffrey Dean Morgan (“Watchmen”) stars as head honcho of the Miramar Playa Hotel. Two local Cubanos — Andy Garcia’s daughter, Dominik Garcia-Lorido, and Yul Vazquez figure prominently. Airs April 6 at 10p on Starz.

Gnarly Harley

This pimped-out ride was shot by Cr8tiv Juice‘s Mauricio Giammatei by the Royal Palm.

Says Mo: “No reason to be scared at all.” Wonder if there’s White-Out in that fanny pack.

Scoot +1

Spotted: Stella Vespa w/ a bullet

Days after we posted Tom Chien’s silver Stella scooter in Auto Erotica, we found its “cousin” parked a block away from Babalu. See picnic basket attached. The only way to travel in South Beach.
