¡Nuestra Casa es Su Tienda! El Pais

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
– Leonardo da Vinci

As featured in El Pais this week, nuestra casa is “the” setting fit for exploring hedonistic pleasures:  all muscle, no clothing, which we’d like to think includes Miami’s best shopping!

Welcome to Babalu at 11 11 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach.

Babalu Miami is the first point of arrival to Lincoln Road as parking visitors to 11 11 arrive on the Ground Floor Passageway, left. 11 11 Lincoln Road at evening rendering, right.

Babalu is located in the heart of the contemporary vibe in South Beach, the iconic  Herzog & de Meuron-designed world- recognized retail, dining and parking structure.

Flipping Pink

“Picasso had his pink period and his blue period.  I am in my blonde period right now.”  – Hugh Hefner

Over the past couple of centuries, the associations of pink and blue have flip-flopped as relating to gender.

Real Men Wear Pink

Wikipedia explains the gender-role flip of pink over the last century. Interesting read…

An article in the trade publication Earnshaw’s Infants’ Department in June 1918 said: “The generally accepted rule is pink for the boys, and blue for the girls. The reason is that pink, being a more decided and stronger color, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl.”[18] From then until the 1940s, pink was considered appropriate for boys because being related to red it was the more masculine and decided color, while blue was considered appropriate for girls because it was the more delicate and dainty color, or related to the Virgin Mary.[19][20][21] Since the 1940s, the societal norm was inverted; pink became considered appropriate for girls and blue appropriate for boys, a practice that has continued into the 21st century.[22]
Don’t be shy, child.  If it feels good, throw it on!

Bali & Beyond!

Our gallivanting Aussie Brent checks-in and checks-out of Indonesia’s super-luxe Aman Resorts…

Where's Brent Been?

You would know if you read my earlier post “Amankila’s 20th Anniversary” that I have just visited Bali and Indonesia. Primarily I travelled to Bali to attend the celebration at Amankila, so I decided this would be the perfect opportunity to stay a little longer and explore Indonesia a little further. I travelled to Java for the first time and was lucky enough to experience the mystical enigma that is Amanjiwo.

It was a whirlwind of Amanresorts with their “Bali & Beyond” experience being the best way to explore this fabulous country. You get to experience one of the three Bali properties Amanusa, Amankila or Amandari combined with Amanwana on Moyo Island (a glamorous tented dive resort which I have visited before) or Amanjiwo, the temple of sophistication complete with the killer postcard views of Borobudur itself. Amanjiwo and Amandari were my choice for this trip, Chrissie from Amanresorts and one of my very best buddies had…

Got balls!

Meatballs that is, just like mama used to make. Well, not quite, but if you enjoy comfort food, The Meatball Joint on 1570 Alton Road, Miami Beach offers what only the perfect meatball can deliver: a warm and delicious morsel of joy to make you feel right at home. And its affordable, too…

Meatbals with Classic Fire-roasted Tomato Marinara and Garlic Bread

First your balls – you get 4 with any choice of Classic Italian (beef and pork), South Beach (turkey) or the West Hollywood (vegetarian with eggplant) and remember to ask for the daily special.

Then choose your sauce of Classic Fire-roasted Tomato Marinara, Fredo (a delicious Alfredo variation) or Drunken Mushroom, head-spinning I know…

Finally, select your side of Garlic bread or Mixed Green Salad or add mouth-watering melted cheese for only $1.

That’s your basic, but you can also choose to sandwich your balls inside a white or whole wheat baguette, sliders (3 each + $0.50 extra cheese) or the Sammy (3 meatballs smashed on focaccia bread $9).

Greg and I both opted for the Classic Italian with Fire-roasted Tomato Marinara ($9).  Greg chose extra cheese ($1) with side salad and I indulged in garlic bread.

The Meatball Joint offers a selection of cold beers and wines to crown your perfect meatball moment.

The verdict?  A delicious must-try!  But just in case she might be reading, I must say noone ever beat mama’s balls!
